For Immediate Release (from the Albertus Magnus College Communications and Marketing Department) - Today's Students Prepared to be Tomorrow's Cyber Security Experts
NEW HAVEN, CONN. - At a time when security breaches, potential exposure of personal data, and identity theft are in the news on a regular basis, Albertus Magnus College is adding Cyber Security as a new major this fall to complement the already widely popular Criminal Justice and Computer Information Systems programs. Albertus Magnus is training the high-tech professionals of tomorrow – today — to keep our technology systems running smoothly and private information safe.
The Bachelor of Science degree in Cyber Security at Albertus Magnus is a 51 credit major designed to build upon a strong liberal arts education and prepare students for a future in this increasingly important field. Statistics estimate that the number of jobs in this industry is expected to grow 37 percent per year in the next five years.
Students will gain both the required technical expertise and the non-technical skills necessary to ensure that information stays secure against external threats. Graduates of the program will be prepared to enter the workforce and serve across a wide range of industries and career paths. "Cyber Security is a field that is exploding with potential and job opportunities. There is a tremendous need for a skilled and diversified workforce," said David Garaventa, director and assistant professor, Computer Information Systems program.
Katrina Love, Albertus '19, graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor's in Computer Information Systems. She plans to become a senior frontend developer, pursue a master's degree, and someday start her own business.
"As a woman in the tech world, I've noticed that there aren't many of us. That's why I've worked so hard to get the most out of my education. I want to set an example for generations after me in my family, as well as all other women, to let them see me and know that they can do it too," said Love. Here are just a few of the highly sought-after jobs that the new Cyber Security major at Albertus can prepare students for with their four-year degree: security analyst; compliance specialist; security auditor; security software developer; vulnerability assessor; incident responder; cryptographer; and forensics expert.
Based on the annual Destination Survey, at 96-percent, Albertus graduates consistently and significantly outperform the national average (82-percent) for finding full-time jobs or furthering their education.
