Looking back at the last decade in Albertus Magnus Athletics

New Haven, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College Athletic Department is taking a look back at some of the facts and figures from the last decade (2010-19).

Albertus combined for eight conference championships, eight NCAA Tournament appearances, 17 conference Players of the Year and 10 All-America performances. In the classroom, the Falcons had 398 Academic All-Conference honors including three Academic All-Americans.

Some highlights that do not make the list include:

Summer of 2011 - Celentano Turf Field added
Spring of 2013 - Men's and women's lacrosse added to varsity ranks, started as club programs in 2011-2012
Fall of 2014 - Added Men's Golf as a club program, began as varsity program in 2015
Fall of 2014 - Named Alling Memorial Golf Course home course for Men's Golf program
Fall of 2015 - Celentano Lights were unveiled at Fall Fest.
Spring 2016 - Rochford Field became the home for the Albertus baseball team.
Fall of 2017 - Shea Softball Complex became the home for the Albertus softball team
Fall of 2018 - Added Women's Field Hockey
January 2019 - Added a brand new student-athlete weight room
Winter of 2019 - Added Women's Swimming and Diving
Winter of 2019 - Added Men's Ice hockey
Winter of 2019 - Played first home game at Ralph Walker Skating Rink 

Men's Basketball

  • Posted 11 straight winning season, eight straight 20+ win seasons, with a high of 28 in three different seasons (11-12, 13-14, 14-15).
  • Head Coach Mitch Oliver secured his 250th win against Emmanual (Mass.) in the 2019 GNAC semifinal game, winning 104-93.
  • Made nine GNAC Tournament appearances and won seven GNAC Championships 
  • Decade Records: Overall Record 233-55 | Conference Record 151-19 | Home Record: 119-15
  • Seven NCAA Tournament appearances and five NCAA Tournament wins.
  • Advanced to the Sweet 16 
  • National leader for five years in home wins (59 straight wins)
  • Tied the national record in conference wins (36 straight wins)
  • Led the nation in winning percentage in 2014 and 2015
  • Led the NCAA in Team & Individual Statistical Categories Multiple times: Blocks, Scoring Margin, Winning Percentage, FG percentage.
  • Ray Askew inducted into 2019 GNAC Hall of Fame.
  • 1,000-point scorers (6): Walden St. Juste, Ray Askew, Arshad Jackson, Darius Watson, Victor Ljuljdjuraj, Jashawn Walters.
  • All-Conference Players: 24

Women's Basketball

  • Six winning seasons, two 20-plus win seasons with a high of 23 in 2018-19.
  • Head Coach JR Fredette garnered his 100th win against Norwich on February 2nd, 2019.
  • Last season, the Falcons set a new program record in points with 118 against Western Conn. State
  • 1,000-point scorers (6): Olivia Bolden, Jill Johnson, Lianna Carrero, Lindsay Karle, Liz Falcigno, Shyla Osmond
  • All-Conference Players: 12

Men's Tennis

  • Recorded two eight-win seasons in 2015 and 2019. 
  • Advanced to the GNAC semifinals for the first time in program history in 2019.
  • All-Conference Players: 6

Women's Tennis

  • Set a program record in wins in 2015 with eight. 
  • Made four GNAC Tournament appearances. 

Women's Soccer

  • Had eight winning seasons over the decade, with a high of 14-5-3 in 2013. 
  • Had six seasons with 10+ victories. 
  • Made nine GNAC Tournament appearances. 
  • The team made their first GNAC Championship appearance in 2016.
  • All-Conference Players: 34     

Men's Soccer

  • Had seven winning seasons over the decade. 
  • Had five seasons with 10+ victories. 
  • Program-record 17 wins in 2011. 
  • Had a perfect 10-0 conference record in 2011.
  • All-Conference Players: 46

Baseball

  • Had two winning seasons over the decade, had one season with 20 victories in 2019. 
  • Had four seasons with 10+ homeruns. 
  • Made eight GNAC Tournament appearances. 
  • All-Conference Players: 29

Softball

  • Had five straight winning seasons over the decade. 
  • Had four straight 20+ win seasons. 
  • Set a program-record for victories in 2017 with 30. 
  • Made six straight GNAC tournament appearances. 
  • All-Conference Players: 16

Men's Lacrosse

  • Program best four wins in 2016.
  • Two players (Justin Bennet and Greg Buck) seclected to the NEILA Academic All-Region Team. 
  • Made its first appearance in the GNAC Tournament in 2019. 
  • All-Conference Players: 4

Women's Lacrosse

  • The program's first victory came in 2014 against Anna Maria. 
  • Posted a decade-best win total in 2019 with six. 
  • In 2019, the team set program-record in home victories with five and GNAC victories with three.
  • All-Conference Players: 1

Volleyball

  • Had their first winning season in 2017, going 16-14. 
  • The Falcons tallied a program-best 16 wins in 2017. 
  • Vanessa Rosario became the winningest Albertus volleyball coach on September 5th, 2018, defeating Mitchell 3-1 for her 30th career victory. 

Men's Golf

  • Won their first-ever match in 2015 against Eastern Nazarene, 356-454.
  • In 2015, Aaron Macchia recorded the lowest home score in program history at 75 against Eastern Nazarene.
  • In 2019 against Eastern Nazarene and Dean, Ryan Sember broke the program record with a score of 74.

Field Hockey

  • The program's first win came in 2019 against Dean.
  • Mikayla Lyston finished the 2019 season leading Division III in saves per game with 16.0.
