In this week's segment of "Meet Our Coaches", we are featuring Head Women's Lacrosse and Field Hockey Coach Joe Caruso.
The Albertus field hockey team continued to improve during its second varsity season, winning the first game in the program's history. The Falcons logged a 2-0 shutout victory over Dean College on Sept. 18. Albertus finished the year with new program records in goals (4), wins (1), shots (31) and penalty corners (24).
Due to the cancelation of the 2020 spring season by the GNAC as part of the NCAA's approach to limiting exposure to COVID-19, the women's lacrosse team played just two games that year. The Falcons went 1-1 over the two games, earning a thrilling 16-15 victory over Elms College on March 4.
How many years have you been coaching?
I've been coaching since 1987.
What sport(s) have you coached?
I started coaching T-Ball in Shelton CT in 1987 and since then I've coached Baseball, Softball, Soccer, Basketball, Field Hockey and Lacrosse.
What is your favorite thing about being a coach?
Making a difference in a kid's life.
What sport do you coach at Albertus?
I coach Field Hockey and Women's Lacrosse
What attracted you to Albertus Magnus College?
I really didn't know anything about Albertus when I applied other than what I read on the web site. I did have one friend that had graduated from Albertus and she loved her time there. I just wanted to be a head college coach. When I first applied to Albertus it was the first collegiate coaching job I had applied for and just liked the atmosphere in the athletic center when I was interviewed. Everyone that I met was friendly and it seemed like a great place to work.
What is your favorite coaching memory at Albertus Magnus?
Winning our first games in school history in both sports.
