Cortez, Kalman Named First Falcon Spotlight Players of the Week for 2022

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – With the 2022 fall campaign beginning last week, it was time to name Kelvin Cortez (Meriden, Conn.) of the men's soccer team and Diana Kalman (East Haven, Conn.) of the women's volleyball team the first Albertus Magnus College Falcon Spotlight Players of the Week for the 2022-23 academic year.

Cortez was a vital component of the Falcons' offense in their first week of the season, scoring a team-high two goals over three games to help the team post a 2-0-1 record. He began the week by cashing in on a penalty kick on Thursday to help guide Albertus to a 2-2 road draw against Westfield State University. Cortez followed Thursday by netting a goal in AMC's convincing 3-0 shutout of Mitchell College in the team's home opener on Saturday. He also tallied a shot in the Falcons' 2-1 home win over Hunter College on Monday.

The Falcons continue non-league play on Thursday, Sept. 8, with a road 7 p.m. tilt against Endicott College in Beverly, Mass.

Kalman hit the ground running in to begin her senior season, as she led the Falcons with 30 kills (2.73 kills per set), 24 digs, seven blocks, and posted the team's lone double-double. She began her week with 14 kills, 10 digs, and five blocks in a hard-fought five-set classic against Bay Path University on Thursday evening. Kalman then tallied eight kills and six digs in AMC's convincing three-set win over Purchase College to begin the team's non-conference tri-match. The senior's week ended with eight more kills and eight more digs against Fisher College in the nightcap.

The women's volleyball team is slated to play Mitchell College tonight at 7 p.m. inside "The Nest" at the Cosgrove Marcus Messer Athletic Center.
