Title: Men''s and Women's Golf Head Coach

Matthew Smith enters his second year as the Falcons' head men’s and women’s golf coach in 2024-25.

In 2025, the women's golf team completed their inaugural season and won three of the four events they competed in. They won the program's first ever match, defeating SUNY Cobleskill, 4-0 in a nine-hole match play contest. Molly Martin (Buffalo, N.Y.) won the Rhode Island College Women's Spring Invitational with a 15-over par 87.

In 2024-25, the men's golf team finished in third place at the GNAC Championships and Charles Kristofak (West Hartford, Conn.) finished in ninth place with a two-day score of 21-over par 161. With his finish, he was named to the All-GNAC Second Team. On the year, the Falcons won six events and had an undefeated spring season, winning all four contests. They finished the season with a win at the 2025 Elms College Men's Golf Spring Invitational at The Ranch Golf Club.

Smith brings a decade’s worth of experience on the golf landscape, including nearly five years as the Assistant Golf Professional and Merchandise Manager at the New Haven Country Club, also the home course for the Falcons’ squads.

“As we embarked on this national search, we were fortunate to find a home run candidate right in our own backyard,” Kobylanski said. “Matt is intricately familiar with the local golf community, and in particular, the New Haven Country Club. He shares a common vision for ensuring that our golf student-athletes succeed academically, athletically and as positive ambassadors for Albertus Magnus College. I am thrilled to welcome Matt into the Falcon Family as our head golf coach.”

“Matt Smith will bring not only a background as a golf professional to the Albertus Magnus College golf programs, but more importantly, he will bring a genuine and sincere care for the overall well-being of its student-athletes and their success,” said William Wallis, Head Golf Professional at New Haven Country Club.

Prior to New Haven Country Club, Smith was the Assistant Golf Professional at Bethesda Country Club in Maryland. While there, he was named the Merchandiser of the Year in the Mid-Atlantic Section of the PGA.

“It is an honor to be part of the Falcon Family. I could not be more excited for the opportunity to begin my coaching career at Albertus,” Smith said. “My goal is to make an impact on each player from the beginning to the end of their student-athlete journey. I also look forward to continuing Albertus’ recent success in the GNAC and guiding a great group of student-athletes on and off the course.”

Smith also spent time at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Va. as an Assistant Golf Professional. He is also a Level II PGA apprentice.
