Women's Lacrosse Topples Falcons 20-3

PAXTON, MA. – The Anna Maria Women's lacrosse team (2-2) hosted the Albertus Magnus Falcons (0-5) for the first home game of the season. On Saturday, March 16, 2024 at the CaparsoField in Paxton, MA. The AMCATS won 20 to 3. 

The AMCATS come out strong in the first quarter against the Falcons scoring five goals and the Falcons only scoring one goal. The action begins for the AMCATS early as Riley Michaud would get two quick goals, one would come off a feed from Kyana Altif and the other goal would be unassisted. That would have the AMCATS to take a lead on the Falcons 2 to 0. It would then be the AMCATS to strike again with three more goals to increase the AMCATS led 5 to 0. The third goal for the AMCATS would be Makayla Gleba assisted by Riley Michaud. The fourth goal would come not far after the third goal from the AMCATS as Kyana Altif would find the back of the net for the AMCATS to increase their lead to 4. It would then by a sweet pass from Carly Drew to Christine Ijawet to add to the AMCATS lead 5 to 0. The Falcons would score one goal off a powerplay from Samantha Helwig unassisted. That would conclude the scoring for the first quarter. 

The AMCATS would come out strong in the second quarter to increase their lead. As Kyana Altif would get a powerplay goal off a pass from Kourtney Mielke. That would increase the lead for the AMCATS to 6 to 1. It would then be Christine Ijawet to score off a pass by Carly Drew on a powerplay to increase the AMCATS lead 7 to 2. The Falcons would then strike and would get their second goal off a free position shot from Samantha Helwig. That would be the only goal the AMCATS would allow them to get in the second quarter. The AMCATS would continue to power the offense on the Falcons scoring six more goals to take a 13 to 2 lead over the Falcons to close out the half. 

The third quarter would be strong for the AMCATS, as they would keep the Falcons off the board but continue to score. It would be five different goal scorers for the AMCATS that would find the back of the net for the AMCATS in the third quarter, and it would be Riley Michaud to strike twice for the AMCATS in the third. At the end of the third quarter, it would be the AMCATS leading the Falcons 19 to 2. 

The fourth quarter would only have two goals total that were scored in it. It would be one for the AMCATS and one for the Falcons. The AMCATS would strike first off, the stick of Ivy Ballou to increase the AMCATS lead 20 to 2. The Falcons would only get one more goal off a free position shot from Alexys Signor. The AMCATS defense and offense was strong against the Falcons winning the game 20 to 3. 

Inside The Numbers: 

• Christine Ijawet led the AMCATS with five goals in the game increasing her total number of goals to 10 so far this season. 
• Riley Michaud and Ivy Ballou both had four goals in the game.
• The AMCATS had eight different goal scorers in the game against the Falcons. 
• The AMCATS outshoot the Falcons 36-11 in the game.
