Falcons Fall 9-6 Late to Newbury College

Jamaica Plain, MA - The Albertus Magnus College Men's Baseball team continued their late inning woes as host Newbury College scored five runs in the eighth inning to defeat the Falcons 9-6 on the night.

The Falcons built a 3-1 lead before issues with the lights forced a 45 minute delay in action.  Freshman starting pitcher Brent Barth (Guilford, CT/Guilford) froze up and struggled following the break and fellow freshman Chris Rivera (New Britain, CT/New Britain) pitched 6 1/3 innings of 2 run balls with six strikeouts and zero bb's to give Albertus the 6-4 advantage entering the bottom of the eighth.

Newbury took advantage of a few Falcon miscues that gave the game to hosts before Albertus went down in order in the top of 9th inning.

Senior outfielder Kyle Calechman (North Haven, CT/North Haven) and junior Rob Gambardella (North Haven, CT/North Haven) each had three hits.  Junior catcher Malcolm Mendez (New York City, NY/Lower East Side) and senior shortstop Bobby Bengivengo (Oxford, CT/Seymour) added two hits each.

Albertus drops to 3-7, 0-0 GNAC while Newbury improves to 7-9 overall.

The Falcons travel to New London, CT to take on Coast Guard Academy in a double header with first pitch scheduled for 3:00 on Monday.
