Baseball Downs WCSU 7-1

Freshman Fanol Prevalla (Berlin, Conn.) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI to lift the Albertus Magnus baseball team to a 7-1 non-conference win over Western Connecticut State University on Thursday evening.

Brian Levchuck (Branford, Conn.) threw six shutout innings before allowing the Colonials' lone run of the game to score in the seventh inning. Levchuck improved to 2-3 on the year with the victory as he allowed two walks, one run and five hits in the contest. He also struck out six.

Albertus took a 2-0 lead in the second inning led by a two-RBI single from senior Jon Almonte (New York, N.Y.). In the third, the Falcons extended their lead to 3-0 thanks to Kyle Calechman's (North Haven, Conn.) second sacrifice fly out of the season. In the fourth inning, the Falcons added four more runs to take a 7-0 lead.

In the frame, Patrick Dornfried (Berlin, Conn.) and Almonte singled with one out on the board before Joseph Martinez (Bronx, N.Y.) plated both Falcons with a base hit of his own. Prevalla followed with an RBI double before Calechman registered an RBI single to extend the Falcons' lead.

WCSU's lone run came in the top of the seventh inning as Mike Yates was hit by a pitch then scored on an RBI double by Conor Bierfeldt.

The Colonials' Derik Brady threw 3.1 innings in the loss as he allowed five hits and five earned runs. C.J. Sousa struck out four and allowed two hits in 2.2 innings of work out of the bullpen.
