Coast Guard Edges Falcons 1-0

The United States Coast Guard Academy edged the Albertus Magnus baseball team 1-0 in the first game of the non-conference double-header on Wednesday afternoon.

Three Coast Guard pitchers combined for a five-hit shutout, while the only run of the game came in the bottom of the first inning when Joe Petry reached on an infield single and scored on an RBI double by Nolan Gallagher.

Albertus sophomore Mike Barillaro (Meriden, Conn.) threw all seven innings and allowed just four hits and the earned run, while walking one and striking out five.  The Bears' Riley Beecher picked up the win as he was designated as the pitcher of record before the game began and was on a pitch count.  He allowed two hits and walked two, while striking out three batters.

Shane Osborn (Lake Worth, Fla.) and Patrick Dornfried (Berlin, Conn.) led the Falcons with two hits apiece in the opening contest.
