Falcons Sweep Norwich with 10-7 Win

The Albertus Magnus baseball team used a 10-7 victory en route to a GNAC series sweep over the Norwich Cadets on Saturday afternoon.

Zak Sokolis (Meriden, Conn.) plated two runners with a single down the right field line in the bottom of the fifth inning to break a seven-all tie late in the game.  The junior later scored on a double by Anthony Pellegrino (Branford, Conn.) to give the Falcons a 10-7 lead.

Norwich (1-8, 0-2 GNAC) opened the contest with four runs in the top of the first inning before Albertus cut the Cadets' lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the frame.

Albertus took over the lead in the second inning with six runs led by a bases clearing double from freshman Jack Pritchard (Orange, Conn.).  Pritchard finished the afternoon 2-for-4 with four RBI.

Norwich tied up the ballgame with two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth before the Falcons put together their late-inning rally.

Brian Levchuk (Branford, Conn.) started on the hill for the Falcons as he went four innings, allowing eight hits, seven runs and four walks. Freshman Tyler Donnan (Meriden, Conn.) put together a stellar outing out of the bullpen as he threw two solid innings of work.  Ryan Fowler (Cheshire, Conn.) earned the save for the Falcons as he pitched the final inning.

Norwich's Brad Hudson took the loss to fall to 1-3 on the year.

Nicholas Gendron had two hits and two RBI for the Cadets.

Albertus will play at Elms on Monday, April 1 in a 7:30 p.m. contest.
