Falcons Edged by Anna Maria 3-2 in Eight Innings

A sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning gave Anna Maria College a 3-2 walk-off victory over the Albertus Magnus baseball team on Sunday afternoon in game one of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader.

Anthony Risotti led off the eighth with a single before getting into scoring position with a stolen base.  Risotti then advanced to third on another AMCats hit and scored the game-winning run on a Mike Guarrieri sacrifice fly out to centerfield.

Albertus (6-10, 4-3 GNAC) was down 2-0 in the fourth before the Falcons cut the lead to one as Zak Sokolis (Meriden, Conn.) scored on a wild pitch. Sokolis led off the inning with a triple to get into scoring position early in the frame.

In the top of the seventh the Falcons tied the contest at two as freshman Steven Lockman (Wallingford, Conn.) scored on an AMCats error.  Lockman, who walked to reach base, advanced into scoring position on a wild pitch then a fielder's choice.

Sophomore Mike Barillaro (Meriden, Conn.) started for the Falcons as he went six innings, allowing five hits and two runs. He struck out six in the no decision. Freshman Ryan Fowler (Cheshire, Conn.) came into the game and pitched 1.1 innings before the walk-off sacrifice fly.  With the loss, Fowler falls to 3-1 on the year.

Anna Maria's Phil Weihn picked up his first win of the season as he allowed one hit and one run in three innings.
