Falcons Cruise to 9-2 Win at Emerson

The Albertus Magnus baseball team cruised to a 9-2 victory at Emerson College on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Falcons secured a berth in the 2013 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship.

The Falcons will now face Suffolk to finish regular-season play on Monday night in Boston. With a sweep of the Rams, the Falcons will host the first round of the tournament.  With a loss or two losses, Albertus will open the postseason on the road on Wednesday.

The Falcons combined for nine runs in the opening two innings, while Emerson's two runs came in the bottom of the seventh.

Albertus was led by Robert Gambardella (North Haven, Conn.) who went 3-for-3 with six RBI and one run scored.  In the first inning, Gambardella hit a bases clearing double to give Albertus a 4-0 lead before he followed with his second home run of the season in the second inning, adding three more runs to the Falcons' tally.

Chris Massimino (Wallingford, Conn.) earned the win for the Falcons as he was successful out of the bullpen.  Massimino struck out one in two innings of work.  Mike Barillaro (Meriden, Conn.) started for the Falcons and came out of the game with the Falcons up 9-0.

Zak Sokolis (Meriden, Conn.) added two hits, two runs and an RBI to the tally for the Falcons, while Patrick Dornfried (Berlin, Conn.) chipped in with a 3-for-4 performance.
