Falcons End 2013 with 6-4 Win over John Jay

The Albertus Magnus baseball team defeated John Jay 6-4 in the Falcons' final game of the 2013 season. Senior Daniel Kmiechick (Barnegat, N.J.) earned the victory for the Falcons to improve to 3-0 on the year, while senior Matthew Finkenzeller (Wolcott, Conn.) picked up the save.

Albertus improved to 13-18 on the year with the victory, while John Jay fell to 6-26 overall.

The Falcons used a 4-run first inning to pace the way to their 13th victory of the season.

John Jay tied the game with single runs in the first, third, sixth and seventh innings and recorded 11 hits on the night.

Albertus starter Brian Levchuk (Branford, Conn.) started in the contest and threw 5.2 innings, while allowed three runs on seven hits.  Kmiechick came in out of the bullpen for the Falcons and went 1.1 innings and allowed one run and three hits. He also struck out two batters of the eight that he faced.

Finkenzeller picked up the first save of his career as he pitched the final two innings of the contest, striking out two of nine batters faced.

With the score tied at four heading into the bottom of the seventh, Albertus broke open the tie as Nick Sedia (Bronx, N.Y.) walked to reach base before an RBI double by Robert Gambardella (North Haven, Conn.).

Albertus added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth thanks to an RBI single by Jordan Kubilus (Cheshire, Conn.).  Shane Osborn (Lake Worth, Fla.) registered his second triple of the season before scoring on Kubilus' hit.

Osborn finished the game 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI, while Gambardella added two doubles.

John Jay's Steve Donato took the loss to fall to 1-1 on the year, while he struck out three batters.  Nico Rivera led the Bloodhounds with three hits.
