Falcons Split Doubleheader at JWU

The Albertus Magnus baseball team took the second game of the Saturday afternoon Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader at Johnson & Wales (R.I.), winning that contest 2-1 after losing in game one 4-0.

JWU moved to 17-5 on the year and 2-1 in league play with the split, while Albertus moved to 8-7 overall and 3-1 in the GNAC.

In the opener, the Wildcats scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning to take control of the game. Rob Bocchetti recorded a one-out double and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Jack Hocking.  The Wildcats added two more runs on a multiple-RBI single by Alex Pezzuto.  JWU added its final run of the game in the fourth inning on a Falcon defensive error.

Jake Marchesseault picked up first fourth win of the season for the Wildcats as he allowed just one hit in the complete game.  He also struck out eight batters.  Mike Barillaro (Meriden, Conn.) suffered the loss for the Falcons as he allowed four runs on six hits.

Albertus Magnus won game two of the Saturday afternoon doubleheader by edging the JWU Wildcats 2-1.  In the top of the fourth inning, Sage Leonard (Northford, Conn.) scored the eventual game-winning run as Tyler Robertson (Cheshire, Conn.) tallied an RBI single.

In the top of the second inning, sophomore Mike Saia (Bridgeport, Conn.) gave the Falcons a 1-0 lead with an RBI single early in the game.  JWU answered immediately in the bottom of the frame as Tyler Pacheco scored on an RBI hit by Jack Hocking.

The Wildcats loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the sixth inning but could not capitalize as the Falcons took the close 2-1 victory.

Shawn Haugh was on the hill for the Wildcats and took the loss as he struck out 10 in seven innings pitched. He allowed two runs on five hits.

Senior Brian Levchuk (Branford, Conn.) picked up the victory as he allowed one run on four hits.  He also struck out two in the complete-game victory.

Zak Sokolis (Meriden, Conn.)  and Anthony Pellegrino (Branford, Conn.) each tallied a hit, while Jack Pritchard (Orange, Conn.) added a double for the Falcons.

Albertus will host Suffolk on Sunday afternoon beginning at noon.  The doubleheader will be played at Quigley Stadium in West Haven.
