Suffolk Cruises to 12-4 Win over Falcons

The Albertus Magnus baseball team fell to Suffolk 12-4 in game one of its Sunday afternoon Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader at Quigley Stadium in West Haven.

Suffolk connected for 16 hits en route to their 12th overall and ninth-straight victory.  Albertus moved to 8-8 overall and 3-2 in the GNAC standings with the loss.

Albertus opened the contest with a 1-2-3 top of the first inning before a Zak Sokolis (Meriden, Conn.) hit a three-run home run to put the Falcons ahead 3-0 early on.

Suffolk answered in the top of the second to take a 5-3 lead.  The Rams put together five hits in the frame including RBI singles from JC Collete, Justin Knight, and Luke Ronchi.

The Rams added four more runs in the fourth inning led by a Collette multiple-RBI single up the middle to give Suffolk a 10-3 lead.

After going up 11-3 in the top of the fifth, Suffolk gave up a run in the bottom of the frame as Jordan Kubilus (Cheshire, Conn.) singled in Sokolis from second. The Rams added their final run in the top of the seventh to secure the 12-4 victory.

Nick Sedia (Bronx, N.Y.) took the loss for the Falcons to fall to 0-1 on the year as he allowed seven runs on eight hits in three innings of work.  Aaron Macchia (Utica, N.Y.) gave up three runs on three hits out of the bullpen before Scott Lusita (Bethel, Conn.) finished the contest going 3.1 innings, while allowing two runs on five hits and three walked batters.

Jonathan Richard improved to 3-2 for the Rams as he allowed four runs on eight hits.  He also recorded two strikeouts in six innings of work.  Jhonneris Mendez came into the game in the final frame and shutdown the Falcons, while picking up a strikeout in one inning of work.
