The Albertus Magnus baseball team dropped the second game of its Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader on Sunday with a 9-1 loss to Suffolk University.

The win improved Suffolk's record to 13-7-1 on the year and an unbeaten 8-0 in GNAC play, while it was also the Rams' 10th-straight victory.  Albertus fell to 8-9 with the loss and 3-3 in league action.

Suffolk scored four runs in the first inning and three in the fourth to take a 7-0 lead.  Suffolk's Mac Jacobson led off the contest with a single before scoring the first run of the game on an RBI hit by Jake Cintolo.  A Jon Lapolla sac fly to left scored another Rams' run as Suffolk took a 2-0 lead.  An RBI single and a wild pitch plated the next two runs for the Rams.

In the fourth inning, the Rams scored three runs on four hits to extend their lead to seven before Albertus plated its first run of the contest on an Anthony Pellegrino (Branford, Conn.) RBI single in the bottom of the fourth inning.

In the fifth, the Rams' tallied another run to take an 8-1 advantage before freshman pitcher Tom Moore (East Haven, Conn.) came out of the bullpen to secure the final out of the frame with a ground out to second base. Moore retired the side in the top of the sixth before allowing a double to lead off the top of the seventh inning.

The Rams added another run in the seventh before another Falcon pitching change.  Christopher Saunders (Watertown, Conn.) took the hill for the Falcons and retired both batters he faced to get out of the inning.

The Falcons tried to rally in the seventh as Pellegrino led off the frame by being hit by a pitch before advancing on a Jack Pritchard (Orange, Conn.) single to right center.  A miscue on the bounce by the Rams' right fielder moved Pellegrino to third easily.  But the Albertus rally was cut short as Suffolk secured the victory with a groundball double-play to end the game.

Albertus freshman Jon Criscio (East Haven, Conn.) gave up four runs on four hits and two walks in the first inning before coming out of the contest. The loss drops Criscio's record to 0-2 on the year.  Mike Hughes (Norwalk, Conn.) threw 3.1 innings out of the bullpen for the Falcons as he allowed three runs on four hits.

Suffolk's Steve Chamberland was flawless through three before leaving the game after 5.1 innings of work.  He allowed one run on four hits, while he struck out one batter.  Mark Fusco took the hill for the Rams with one out in the sixth as he struck out the first batter he faced before retiring the next.

Cintolo finished the contest 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI for the Rams.

The Falcons will return to action on Friday, April 11 when they travel to New York to take on Yeshiva in a 10 a.m. doubleheader at SUNY-Purchase.
