The Albertus Magnus baseball team cruised to back-to-back wins over CCNY on Saturday afternoon in New Rochelle to improve to 16-14 on the year.  The Falcons won game one by a commanding 14-3 before defeating CCNY 11-7 in eight innings in game two.

The two wins give Albertus 16 on the year to mark the most in a single-season for the Falcons under current head coach Brian Leighton.  The 16 wins are also the most for the program, since the Falcons finished the 2004 season 16-16.

Anthony Pellegrino (Branford, Conn.) added three hits to help his own cause as he threw 6.1 innings of work, while allowing three runs on six hits.  He struck out seven as he improved to 3-2 on the year.  Aaron Macchia (Utica, N.Y.) finished the contest as he allowed one hit and struck out one batter.

The Falcons scored in all seven innings of the contest as they added four runs in the seventh inning thanks to a two-run double by Sokolis. Brian Collado took the loss for CCNY, falling to 0-4 on the year. He gave up six runs on nine hits in 3.1 innings.

Patrick Dornfried (Berlin, Conn.) added a 2-for-4 performance, while Jordan Kubilus (Cheshire, Conn.) tallied four RBI on two hits for the Falcons as well.

In game two, Jack Pritchard (Orange, Conn.) singled in the first run of the ballgame with an RBI base hit to centerfield.  CCNY took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the frame before Albertus tied the contest at two in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly by Sokolis.

CCNY added three runs in the bottom of the fifth before a five-run sixth inning. Steven Lockman (Wallingford, Conn.), Mike Saia (Bridgeport, Conn.), and Pellegrino each contributed an RBI in the frame as Albertus took a 7-5 lead.  CCNY answered again with two runs in the bottom of the sixth.

After a scoreless seventh inning, the game was forced into extras.  In the top of the eighth, Albertus scored four runs to take an 11-7 lead. The inning was capped by a two-run single to right center by junior Vinny Purgatore (Hamden, Conn.).

Pellegrino finished the contest 3-for-4, while Purgatore tallied two hits, two walks and a run scored. Senior Brian Levchuk (Branford, Conn.) evened his record out to 3-3 on the year with the win for the Falcons. He allowed seven runs on six hits in eight innings of work. He struck out five.
