Falcons Edge WCSU in Game Two, 5-4

The Albertus Magnus baseball team defeated Western Connecticut State University 5-4 in game two of the Thursday night non-conference doubleheader in West Haven, Conn.

The Falcons (9-10) scored four runs in the first inning thanks to two hits and one WCSU (10-6) error, including an RBI double from Mike Saia (Bridgeport, Conn.).

The Colonials scored one run in the top of the second before cutting the lead to one at 4-3 with two runs in the fifth thanks to extra base hits from Stanley Rijo and Gus Constantino.

Albertus answered in the bottom of the fifth when the Falcons used a throwing miscue to score their fifth run of the ballgame.

After a leadoff single for WCSU, Albertus starter Mike Hughes (Norwalk, Conn.) came out of the ballgame. Hughes gave up four runs on seven hits in 5.0 innings of work.  Ted Gravel (Morris, Conn.) came in for relief for the Falcons as he

Western cut the Albertus lead back to one at 5-4 as a balk plated Western's run in the top of the sixth inning.

Andrew Fogarty allowed four runs on three hits in four innings of work. The loss dropped his overall record to 1-1 on the year.  Kyle Cole was the first player out of the bullpen for Western as he faced five batters, striking out one batter in one inning of work.

Shane Bierfeldt pitched the sixth for Western as he retired the first two batters he faced before giving up a walk to Tyler Robertson (Cheshire, Conn.).

Tyler Donnan (Meriden, Conn.) came out of the bullpen for the Falcons in the top of the seventh. Donnan retired the first two batters he faced before allowing a two-out walk. A balk moved the tying run into scoring position before Donnan forced a fly out to right field to end the game. Donnan earned the save for the Falcons.
