Baseball Splits Twinbill Against Emory & Henry

Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The Albertus Magnus College baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader against Emory & Henry on Tuesday afternoon at the Cal Ripken Experience. The Falcons defeated the Wasps in game one, 4-3, but fell in game two, 12-6.


GAME 1 SCORE: Albertus Magnus 4 | Emory & Henry 3 (Eight Innings)

HOW IT HAPPENED

(B) 5th Inning – Emory & Henry broke the silence after five and a half innings scoreless innings as the Wasps scored two runs on three hits to take the late 2-0 edge.

(T) 6th Inning – Andrew Scully (Stratford, Conn.) started the Falcons' rally in the top of sixth with his first home run of the season. Down by one, 2-1, and with two outs, Derwin Nunez (Bridgeport, Conn.) and Roberto Garcia (Bridgeport, Conn.) was able to cross home to give the Falcons the 3-2 advantage.

(B) 7th Inning – However, Josh Macek tied the game up at 3-all after he sent the ball over the fence in right center for his first homerun of the season.
(T) 8th Inning – With one out, Brandon Clark (Cheshire, Conn.) started off the Falcons' rally with a single to left before Nunez doubled to center field, advancing Clark to third. With the bases loaded, Garcia registered his first RBI of the game and allowed Clark to cross home before the final two outs were collected.

A LOOK INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

  • Shawn McFeggan (Anaheim, Cal.) earned his first win of the season as he allowed seven hits and three runs over seven innings on the mound. He also stuck out four batters.
  • Tom Moore (East Haven, Conn.) picked up the save for the Falcons after coming in for the final inning.
  • Ethan Cave picked up the loss for the Wasps after allowing the winning runner to score in the eighth.
  • Scully and Clark led the Falcons at the plate with two hits a piece while Scully registered one of the Falcons' three RBI of the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED

(T) 1st Inning – Emory & Henry came out hot in the second game as the Wasps took the early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. With two outs, Caleb Wallace allowed both runners to score on a RBI double to right center.

(B) 1st Inning – Tyriq Harris (Waterbury, Conn.) put the Falcons on the board in the bottom of the first after he crossed home despite Scully hitting into a double play.

(T) 2nd Inning – The Wasps struck again in the top of the second as Chandler Kezele hit a homerun over the right field fence to extend the lead to two, 3-1.

(B) 2nd Inning  Albertus Magnus rallied in the bottom of the third, scoring two runs on two hits to tie the game for the first time, 3-3. Mike Browne (New Fairfield, Conn.) and Harris recorded back-to-back RBI before Hunter Dumas (Norwalk, Conn.) recorded the third and final out of the inning.

(T) 3rd Inning – Emory & Henry answered back to the Falcons rally scoring three runs in the top of the third. The first two runs of the inning came off back-to-back RBI singles from Logan Foster and Ross French. French was the final runner to cross home before the Wasps ended the inning with a ground out to third.

(B) 3rd Inning – The Falcons scored only one run in the bottom of the third thanks to an RBI single from Alex Tejero (West Haven, Conn.). Emory & Henry ended the threat and the Falcons managed to leave three runners on base.

(T) 5th Inning – Emory & Henry struck again in the top of the fifth, tacking on four runs to extend its lead to six, 10-4.

(B) 6th Inning – Albertus Magnus rallied together for the final time as the Falcons scored two runs to cut the Wasps' lead to four, 10-6. With one out and runners on second and third, Hunter Dumas (Norwalk, Conn.) singled up the middle, moving Harris to third and sending Garcia home. However, Scully earned the Falcons' second out of the inning, but Tom Crocco (Kings Park N.Y.) was able to keep the rally going with a RBI single up the middle, allowing Harris to score.

(T) 7th Inning  Emory & Henry added two more runs in the top of the seventh to put the game away, 12-6.

A LOOK INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

  • Jay Palais earned the tough loss for the Falcons. He finished the game with a strikeout, a walk, six runs and nine hits over three innings of play.
  • Jacob Collins picked up the "W" for the Wasps.
  • Harris and Crocco led the offensive unit with three hits a piece.

Albertus Magnus returns to action on Wednesday, March 14 against Lancaster Bible and Wells. Game times are set for 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.
