Baseball Loses to Coast Guard in Non-Conference Action

New London, Conn. – The Albertus Magnus College baseball team lost 12-4 to in-state rival Coast Guard on Thursday evening in a non-conference clash at Nitchman Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

(B) 4th Inning – Coast Guard opened the game with the early 4-0 advantage following a four hit inning.

(T) 3rd Inning – Albertus Magnus rallied back in the top of the third as Roberto Garcia (Bridgeport, Conn.) and Hunter Dumas (Norwalk, Conn.) scored thanks to an RBI groundout from Tyriq Harris (Waterbury, Conn.) and a RBI double from Brandon Clark (Cheshire, Conn.). Following the two runs, the Falcons cut the lead in half, 4-2.

(B) 3rd / 4th / 6th Inning – However, Coast Guard answered back scoring seven runs on nine hits to push its lead to nine, 11-2.

(T) 7th Inning – The Falcons added another two runs in the top of the seventh to cut the seven, 11-4. With two outs, Harris started the rally with a walk before finding himself crossing home following a double from Derwin Nunez (Bridgeport, Conn.). Andrew Scully (Stratford, Conn.) continued the Falcons at-bat moving Nunez to third and reaching first on an error. Nunez tallied the Falcons second run of the inning, scoring on an error by the catcher, but the threat ended with a strikeout.

(B) 8th Inning – Coast Guard tacked on another run in the bottom of the eigth before securing the 12-4 home victory.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Albertus Magnus went 3-for-33 at the plate while Coast Guard went 15-for-38.
  • Four different players registered a run for the Falcons while Nunez and Clark collected an RBI apiece.
  • Coast Guard was led by Josh Hguyen-Domingo who went 3-of-4 at the plate as well as collected three RBI and three runs scored.
  • The Falcons' bullpen totaled six walks and eight strikeouts over eight inning.
