Baseball Sweeps Anna Maria in GNAC Opener

New Haven, Conn. – The Albertus Magnus College baseball team recorded an impressive afternoon as well as snapped a five game-losing streak as the Falcons swept Anna Maria College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference doubleheader at Clark University. Albertus Magnus defeated the AMCATS 11-3 in game one and triumphed in game two, 16-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED

(T) 1st Inning - Albertus Magnus started off the game scoring two runs on four hits to take the early 2-0 advantage. With two outs, Adam Olszyk (Hamden, Conn.) and Matt Warren (Wolcott, Conn.) recorded back-to-back RBI singles to give the visitors the lead before a fly out to left ended the inning.

(B) 1st Inning - The AMCATS responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the first inning to cut the score to one, 2-1.

(T) 2nd Inning - The Falcons extended their lead to 6-1 following a grand slam from freshman, Brandon Clark in the top of the second inning.

(T) 3rd / 5th Inning – Over the next three innings, Albertus Magnus pushed its lead to eight, 8-0, following one-run inning in the top of the third and fifth inning.

(B) 5th Inning - Anna Maria notched their second run in the bottom of the inning as Matt Elliot crossed home plate after a visiting team error, 8-2.

(T) 7th Inning - The Falcons notched three more runs in the seventh inning to take a nine run, 11-2, lead. Albertus Magnus managed to score all three runs without a hit and relied on two errors by the hosts.

(B) 7th Inning - The AMCATS never gave up the fight as they were able to notch one more run in the last inning with an RBI double from Trevor Brown (Gardner, Mass.) to left center field.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Brandon Clark (Cheshire, Conn.) recorded a team-high four RBI following his grand slam in the top of the second.
  • Albertus Magnus went 12-of-31 at the plate as well as tallied 10 RBI while the hosts went 6-of-25.
  • Six different players from Anna Maria tallied at least a hit while Matt Elliot posted a team-high two runs scored.
  • Tyriq Harris (Waterbury, Conn.), Adam Olszyk (Hamden, Conn.) and Mike Browne (New Fairfield, Conn.) all went two for three with one RBI each.

HOW IT HAPPENED

(T) 1st Inning - Falcon's Christian Bradley (Stratford, Conn.) notched a two RBI single to lead the visitors in a six hit, seven run effort in the first inning of game two.

(T) 2nd Inning to (T) 6th Inning – Albertus Magnus tallied nine more runs over the next five innings to extend its lead to 16-0. During this span, the Falcons recorded six hits while Bradley led the charge with a two-run RBI triple in the top of the fourth.

(B) 6th Inning - Anna Maria was able to get on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning as Dylan Carissimo homered over the left field fence giving the AMCATS one run, 16-1.

(B) 7th Inning -  Anna Maria tallied two more runs in the bottom of the seventh with RBIs from Fahey and Jacob Nichols.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Bradley led the visitors at the plate going two-for-three at the plate with four RBIs.  
  • Following that lead, Justin Rodriguez went two-for-three with two RBIs.
  • Seven other Falcon's contributed RBIs en route to the victory.
