Browne's Walk-off Highlights Day as Baseball Sweeps Mt. St. Vincent

New Haven, Conn. – The Albertus Magnus College baseball team improved to 8-12 on the season as the Falcons took down Mt. St. Vincent in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday evening at Rochford field. The Falcons secured game one, 3-1, and triumphed 5-4 in the night in extra innings. Sophomore Mike Browne (New Fairfield, Conn.) allowed the game-winning run to score in the bottom of the 10th in game two to give the hosts the walk-off win.

HOW IT HAPPENED

(T) 1st Inning – Mt. St. Vincent jumped out to the early 1-0 advantage as Saunders scored off a RBI single from Pena.

(B) 1st Inning – A half inning later, Tyriq Harris tied the game, 1-1, after starting off the inning with a walk before scoring on a passed ball. Andrew Scully put Harris in running position after hitting a deep ball to left center.

(B) 2nd Inning – The Falcons took over the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the second after Christian Bradley (Stratford, Conn.) drove in Matt Warren (Wolcott, Conn.) off a little poke in the infield . Warren began the inning with a single to right before advancing to third on a wild pitch and a single from Justen Rodriguez (Waterbury, Conn.).  The Falcons' rally ended with an out at second and back-to-back fly outs to the outfield.

(B) 5th Inning – Albertus Magnus extended its lead to two, 3-1, following a one-run one-hit inning. Mike Browne (New Fairfield, Conn.) led off the inning with a walk before recording the Falcons' second out of the inning. Junior Tom Crocco (Bristol, Conn.) drove in the Falcons' lone run of inning off a single to right field. Andrew Scully (Stratford, Conn.) recorded the hosts final out of the inning, leaving a runner on base.

INSIDE THE STATS

  • Senior Tom Moore (East Haven, Conn.) picked up his second save of the season after he relieved Brinkley in top of the seventh.
  • Five different players registered at least one hit while Crocco and Bradley earned one of the Falcons' two RBI.
  • Zachary Saunders led the Dolphins with a 2-of-3 showing at the plate as well as drove in a win.
  • The Dolphins went 5-of-25 at the plate while the Falcons went 5-of-23.

HOW IT HAPPENED

(B) 1st Inning – With two outs, Scully and Brandon Clark (Cheshire, Conn.) started the Falcons' rally with back-to-back walks before Matt Warren hit a deep ball to center field to clear the bases and put the hosts up 2-0.

(T) 2nd Inning – Mt. St. Vincent cut the lead to within one, 2-1, after Kyle Tamburi hit a home run over the right field fence.

(B) 3rd Inning – Scully extended the Falcons' lead to two, 3-1, as he allowed Harris to score off a sacrifice fly to center field. Harris kicked off the inning with a single before finding himself in scoring position off a double from Roberto Garcia (Bridgeport, Conn.).

(T) 4th Inning – The Dolphins struck again in the top of the fourth scoring one run to cut the lead to one, 3-2. Honorio Pena scored the visitors' lone run off an error by the short stop.

(B) 4th Inning – A half inning later, Bradley put the hosts back one top, 4-2, as he led off the inning with a triple and crossed home off a throwing error by the right field. Dean Gullo (Northford, Conn.) and Daniel Kennedy (Manchester, Conn.) kept the Falcons' rally going, but the hosts went down 1-2-3.

(T) 6th Inning – Mt. St. Vincent tied the game 4-4 in the top of the sixth after the Dolphins scored two runs, both on wild pitches, and one hit.

(B) 10th Inning – After four scoreless innings, Mike Browne (New Fairfield, Conn.) scored the final run of the game as the shortstop flied out to centerfield to allow Alex Tejero (West Haven, Conn.) to score to give the Falcons the 5-4 walk-off win.

INSIDE THE STATS

  • Harris and Christian Bradley (Stratford, Conn.) led the Falcons at the plate with two hits apiece while Bradley added a RBI and a run scored.
  • Warren posted a team-high two RBI.
  • At the plate, Albertus Magnus went 8-of-35 while the Dolphins went 8-of-4.
