Baseball Drops a Pair GNAC Games to Lasell

New Haven, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College baseball team wrapped up the 2017 regular season on Sunday afternoon as the Falcons lost a pair of Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) games to Lasell College at Rochford Field. The Falcons lost game one, 20-7, and fell, 17-5, in the night cap.

HOW IT HAPPENED

(T) 3rd Inning – Lasell got thing started in the top of the third scoring five runs on four hits to take a commanding 5-0 lead entering the bottom of the third. Hector Coscione got the Lasers on the board as he drove in two runs on a deep shot to left field for his third home run of the season. Three batters later, Dom Mascolo added two more runs to the Lasers' total before an RBI single from Andre Marchesseault drove in the final run of the inning. 

(B) 3rd Inning – Senior Andrew Scully (Stratford, Conn.) got the Falcons on the board, 5-3, after hitting a bullet to left center, driving in Tyriq Harris (Waterbury, Conn.) and Hunter Dumas (Norwalk, Conn.) from first and second base. Junior Tom Crocco (Kings Park, N.Y.) continued the Falcons' rally scoring a run to cut the lead to 5-4 before Adam Olszyk (Hamden, Conn.) tied the game up 5-5 with an RBI single to left. 

(T) 4th Inning – Lasell would regain the lead, 8-5, in the top of the fourth after scoring three runs on two hits.

(B) 4th Inning – Scully would put the Falcons right back into the game as the senior hit his second straight home run of the game, bringing the score to within one, 8-7. However, the Falcons' rally ended leaving two runners on first and second following a pop up to second.

(T) 5th – 7th Inning – Over the last three innings of play, Lasell would seal the win after scoring a total of 12 runs to secure the 20-7 win.

STATS

  • Albertus Magnus was 12-of-30 in game one.
  • Lasell was 12-of-33 at the plate while Skylar Beckerman led the Lasers with three hits.
  • Crocco led the Falcons in game one with a team-high three hits.

HOW IT HAPPENED

(T) 1st Inning – Lasell jumped out early in the top of the first scoring three runs on three hits to take the lead, 3-0.

(B) 1st Inning – Albertus Magnus answered back scoring two runs, 3-2, after back-to-back hits from Matt Warren (Wolcott, Conn.) and Tom Crocco (Kings Park, N.Y.).  With two outs, Scully would get things going with a single to left before advancing home on a RBI triple from Warren. Crocco continued the rally with a RBI double to right center, but the Falcons' threat ended with a ground out to second.

(T) 2nd – 3rd Inning – Bats came alive for the Lasers over the next two innings as the visitors push their lead to 11, 13-2. In the top of the second, Lasell rallied together three runs on two hits before scoring seven runs in the top of third to take the commanding lead. 

(T) 4th – 5th Inning – Lasell continued to control the momentum of the game, scoring another four runs over the next two innings to make the score 17-2 entering the bottom of the fifth.

(B) 7th Inning - Albertus Magnus could only play catch-up in the final half inning as the Falcons added three runs to bring the score to 17-5.

STATS

  • Albertus Magnus went 9-of-29 at home plate behind a 2-of-2 performance from Derwin Nunez (Bridgeport, Conn.)
  • Lasell was 21-of-41 and was led offensively by three players with three hit performances.
