Field Hockey Opens GNAC Slate with Loss at Elms

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Albertus Magnus College field hockey team kicked off Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Saturday with a 7-0 setback against Elms College in Chicopee, Mass.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Blazer burst out of the gates in the first quarter, scoring four quick goals in the opening 15 minutes. The home squad saw first-quarter tallies from Erin Thibodeau, Melanie Ward, Carissa Ramirez, and Katie Jones.

Albertus settled in during the second quarter, holding Elms scoreless in the frame. Mikayla Lyston (Medford, N.Y.) racked up eight saves in the second quarter, finishing the first half with 18 stops.

The Blazers added one more goal in the opening seven minutes of the third to take a 5-0 advantage into the fourth. Two more fourth-quarter scores iced a 7-0 win for Elms.

Despite trailing, the Falcons continued to battle in the fourth, getting off the team's first three shots of the season. Ariana Martin (Hamden, Conn.) got off two shots, while Madison Duranleau (Wheelock, Vt.) posted the third. All three of Albertus' attempts were on goal.

Lyston recorded one of her trademark stellar days in cage for the Falcons, finishing with a season-high 25 saves. In her two-year career, the Medford, N.Y., native has three games with 25-plus stops.
