Askew Leads Falcons to Sixth Straight Win

Northfield, VT - Junior forward Ray Askew (New Haven, CT/Career) had a game high 25 points and game high 13 rebounds as the Falcons defeated host and Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponent Norwich University on Thursday night 75-72.  Albertus won it's sixth straight in a back and forth game undecided until the final minutes.

The Falcons trailed 37-31 at halftime to Norwich University who had been winners of 10 of their last 11 games entering the contest.

The back and forth game featured eight lead changes and 10 times the game was tied including five times in just a four minute stretch in the second half alone.

With 5:06 remaining in the second half, the score was tied at 65-65  before Albertus used a 5-0 run to make the score 70-65 with 2:33 remaining in the contest.  Norwich would cut the lead to 70-69 on back to back made baskets from senior guard Jarren Jeffcoat (Dallas, TX/Plano West).  Following a Falcon turnover senior guard Walden St. Juste (Hartford, CT/Bulkeley) came up with the steal and assisted Askew to give Albertus the 72-69 lead with under a mintue to play.

After a Norwich miss, St. Juste secured the rebound and was fouled making 1-2 from the foul line to take a 73-69 lead.  A missed Norwich three point attempt was followed with a St. Juste layup to give the Falcons the 75-69 lead with just four seconds remaining.  Jeffcoat would make a three to cut the lead to 75-72 with just a fraction of a second remaining on the clock.

Albertus was led by Askew and his game high 25 points and game high 13 rebounds but received 12 points, five steals, and five assists from St. Juste.  Sophomores Mike Massey (New Haven, CT/Hamden Hall) and Arshad Jackson (Hartford, CT/Hartford Public) chipped in 14 and 10 points respectively.

Jeffcoat led the way for Norwich with a team high 24 points and game high five assists.

Albertus improves to 15-9, 13-4 GNAC while Norwich drops to 15-9, 11-6 GNAC.

The Falcons host GNAC opponent Suffolk University at 3:00 pm on senior day when they will honor senior guard Walden St. Juste (Hartford, CT/Bulkeley) and senior center Brenden Lang (Wallingford, CT/Lyman Hall).
