Division I Yale Defeats No. 20 Albertus 112-63 in Elm City Clash

The Albertus Magnus men's basketball team fell to Division I Yale University 112-63 in front of a crowd of 1,094 on Tuesday night in the Lee Amphitheater in downtown New Haven.

The loss marks the first for the Falcons (7-1) in regular-season play since its two-point loss to Medgar Evers on December 6, 2011. Yale's victory is the second against the Falcons in the last four years, after defeating Albertus 92-71 back on January 7, 2010.

Senior Arshad Jackson (Hartford, Conn.) was one of three Falcons in double figures as he scored 14 points in the contest, shooting 50% from the floor.

Yale opened tonight's match-up with a 6-2 run before the Falcons battled back to make the score 6-4. Darius Watson (New Britain, Conn.) hit back-to-back three pointers to cut Yale's lead to one at 13-12 before the Bulldogs went on a 14-3 run to extend their lead to 12 at 27-15.

The Falcons were held without a field goal for 5:46 midway through the first half as they shot 34.4% from the field in the opening 20 minutes of play. Watson led the Falcons with 12 first-half points, while Jackson added eight. Yale shot 61.8% from the floor in the first half on 21-of-34 shooting. The Bulldogs also shot 50% from behind the arc.

Yale opened the second half with a 7-0 run to extend its lead to 18 before the Falcons came out of a media timeout scoring seven unanswered points.

Yale outscored the Falcons 60-35 in the second half as the Bulldogs registered its largest lead of the night at the 1:38 mark when Jack Montague knocked in a three-pointer to make the score 109-59. The Bulldogs out-rebounded the Falcons 31-9 in the first half before finishing the night with a 60-19 advantage.

Watson added a team-high 19 points on 7-of-18 shooting from the floor, while freshman James Jennings (Stratford, Conn.) tallied 16 points, 14 of which came in the second half.

Yale finished the night shooting 64.6% from the field, including a 10-of-18 (55.6%) clip from behind the arc. Albertus shot 33.3% on the night and hit 11-of-26 from three-point land.

The Falcons head into the holiday break with their 7-1 overall record, while they remain unbeaten in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play at 3-0. The Falcons will continue their 2012-13 schedule with a home contest against Worcester State on January 2, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. in New Haven.
