The Albertus Magnus men's basketball team shot 77.8% from behind the arc in the second half en route to a 77-63 victory over New Jersey City University in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon.
The Falcons improve to 4-0 on the year and hand NJCU its first loss of the season as the Knights fall to 5-1 on the year.
Darius Watson (New Britain, Conn.) led all scorers with 22 points as he shot 7-of-10 from the field, including a 6-of-8 clip from three-point land. He added seven rebounds for the Falcons.
The score was tied five times and the lead changed five times during the opening half as the teams went into the break with an identical score of 36. NJCU tallied 12 points on 12 Falcon turnovers in the first half as well.
Midway through the first half, the Falcons held an eight-point lead at 24-16 before NJCU battled back, taking a one-point lead on a David Cole three-point field goal with 4:40 left on the clock in the frame. Two free-throws by Watson and a jumper from Marcus Walker (Newark, N.J.) gave the Falcons their own three-point lead before NJCU went on a 6-0 run to take a 36-31 lead.
With 1:04 left on the clock in the first half, Kyle Wiggins (Milford, Conn.) hit a big three-pointer before Eian Davis (Brooklyn, N.Y.) connected on a lay-up at the buzzer, sending the teams into the break with a 36-36 tied score.
Out of the break, the Falcons jumped out to a 16-4 run before extending that run to 21-5 as Albertus shot 66.7% from behind the arc during that stretch. The Falcons' three-point shooting percentage in the second frame led to their largest lead of the day of 21 points with 8:26 left to play.
NJCU missed all five of its three-point field goals attempted in the second half and finished the game 1-of-12.
Victor Ljuljdjuraj (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) tallied 11 points for the Falcons as he added eight rebounds and three blocked shots. Lemar Larsen (Waterbury, Conn.) shot 5-of-6 from the field and hit two free throws to finish with 12 points, while Walker came off the bench to tally six points and 11 rebounds. Of those 11 boards, seven were on the defensive end. Wiggins, who also came off the bench for the Falcons, was 3-of-5 for nine points behind the arc.
Albertus will open 2013-14 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Tuesday night when the Falcons travel to Mount Ida College for a 6:00 p.m. contest.
