Walters Surpasses 1,000 Career Points in Falcons' Win over Emmanuel

BOSTON, Mass. – Junior Jaqhawn Walters (Hartford, Conn.) of the Albertus Magnus College men's basketball team netted his 1,000th career point in the Falcons' win over Emmanuel (Mass.), 93-82, on Tuesday evening in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference clash at the Jean Yawkey Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Albertus started off the game hot, scoring five straight points to take the early lead before Julian Diggs tied the game up for the first time, 8-8, at the 14:47 mark. Shortly after, Emmanuel found themselves up two, 12-10, but the Falcons put together an 11-8 run to push their lead to five, 23-18.

Emmanuel managed to cut the five-point deficit to two, 26-24, until a jumper from Grant Ellis (Newark, N.J.) sparked a 12-5 run to extend the visitors' lead to nine, 38-29, with 3:16 left on the clock. Albertus rattled off six straight points to take its biggest lead of the half with 15, 44-29, before holding a 44-31 lead at the break.
The Falcons maintained their double-digit lead over the next five minutes of play until Emmanuel scored 12 straight points to bring the score to within two, 59-57, with 13:10 remaining.  Over the next couple minutes, Albertus pushed its lead back up to double-digits, 72-62, but Emmanuel put together a 10-0 run to tie the game, 72-72, for the third time tonight.
 
During the final five minutes of play, Emmanuel continued to threaten the Falcons' lead, but the visitors maintained their composure and secured the 93-82 win over the Saints.

 

FIRST HALF STATS

  • Senior Grant Ellis (Newark, N.J.) and junior Jaqhawn Walters (Hartford, Conn.) totaled 25 of the Falcons' 44 points.
  • Will Jessup led the Saint in the first with 11 points while shooting 100 percent from the charity stripe and three-point range.
  • Albertus dominated on the glass pulling down 32 rebounds compared to the hosts who only posted 12.
  • Emmanuel recorded only six first half turnovers while the Falcons posted 13.
 SECOND HALF STATS
  • Walters scored 22 of his 34 points in the second half while shooting 47.3 percent from the floor.
  • Emmanuel outshot the Falcons 51-49 in the final 20 minutes of play.
  • Three different Saints registered in double-figures and totaled 34 of the hosts' 51 points.
  • Similar to the first, Walters and Liam Perryman (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) recorded over 10 rebounds for the Falcons.
 FINAL STATS
  • Four different Falcons registered in double-figures, including a double-double from Walters, 34 points and 23 rebounds.
  • Perryman set a new career-high in rebounds (14) and in blocks (four).
  • Albertus dominated on the glass pulling down 62 rebounds as well as recorded 32 second chance points and 52 points in the paint.
  • Emmanuel was led by five double-digit scorers and finished the game shooting 40.9 percent from the field.
  • The Saints held a 14-6 edge in steals, but the Falcons held a 6-3 edge in blocks.
