HOW IT HAPPENED

Albertus Magnus opened the non-conference clash with an early 10-4 lead, that included a pair of baskets from Mason Jones (Manchester, N.J.) and Amir Maddred (Camden, N.J.), forcing the hosts to use its first timeout of the game four minutes in. Shortly after, Mitchell rallied off a 7-3 run to cut the Falcons' lead to two, 13-11, before a three from Hanif Bilal (Winston-Salem, N.C.) stopped the Mariners' run and shifted the momentum back to the visitors.

With 5:56 remaining in the half, Albertus Magnus took its biggest lead of the first, 31-22, on a jumper from Maddred, but a 9-0 run by the Mariners brought the hosts to within two, 33-31. Both teams traded baskets over the next minute until two free throws from Marvin Baker tied the game at 37-all, entering a media timeout at the 2:27 mark. Jones and Randy Thomas (Newark, N.J.) would close out the frame for the Falcons scoring the final eight points to give their team the six-point lead at the half, 45-39.

The Falcons came out hot to start the second half, pushing the margin to 56-41 by the 16:16 mark. Maddred scored the first five points of the period while Walters added a pair of buckets.

A Pittman three with 10:52 to play gave Albertus Magnus its biggest lead of the night at 71-52. Mitchell eventually whittled the deficit back to 10 but never got within single digits.
