Falcons Soar Past Mount Ida, 97-77

New Haven, Conn. – Senior Jaqhwan Walters (Hartford, Conn.) of the Albertus Magnus College men's basketball team netted a game-high 32 points and game-high 18 rebounds as the Falcons improve to 4-0 in the GNAC after defeating Mount Ida College, 97-77, Tuesday evening at the Cosgrove Marcus Messer Athletic Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Albertus Magnus opened the GNAC tilt with a 20-2 lead just seven minutes in before preventing the visitors from scoring a basket for two minutes. The Mustangs broke their silence at the 12:56 mark on a layup from Dennis Ross, but the Falcons would remaing in control and hold a 50-31 advantage heading into halftime.

Mount Ida continued to fight back on offense and kept the hosts' lead to under 20 until the 8:12 mark as the Falcons put together a short spurt and found themselves up 27, 95-68 with 3:22 remaining. Against the Falcons' defense, the Mustangs were only able to score nine points in the time remaining and the Falcons would go on to win their secon straight GNAC game.

NOTEWORTHY

  • Albertus Magnus was just one rebound shy of tying its season-high 50 rebounds.
  • With tonight's win, the Falcons are now 20-2 against the Mustangs.
  • The Falcons remain undefeated at home, 12-0, against the Mustangs.

  • Sophomore Jahmerikah Green-Younger (Norwalk, Conn.) added 24 points on 9-13 shooting while senior Amir Maddred (Camden, NJ) was a low-post presence with 15 points and 14 rebounds.
  • Joey DeFillippi paced the Mustangs' offense with a team-high 17 points while Errald Jordine and Kevin Vanderhorst rounded out the double-digit scorers with 13 points each.
  • The Falcons lead the entire contest seeing their biggest lead at 27 points late in the second half.
  • Albertus Magnus held a 49-40 advantage in rebounding.
  • The Mustangs' bench totaled 34 of their 77 points.
