Matt Alvey Joins Men's Ice Hockey Coaching Staff

New Haven, Conn. - Albertus Magnus College men's ice hockey coach Kyle Wallack announced the addition of Matt Alvey as an assistant coach on Wednesday, November 28, 2018.

"We're extremely thrilled to have a person like Matt Alvey join our staff here at Albertus," said Coach Wallack. "His diverse background, work ethic and knowledge of the game will help us build our foundation and culture as a brand new program here at Albertus."

Prior to Albertus, Alvey spent two seasons as a volunteer assistant coach at Union College from 2016 to 2018.

Alvey also served as Hudson Valley Community College's ice hockey coach from 2002 to 2015, guiding the Vikings to five National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) national tournament appearances.

A Troy, NY native, Alvey was a second-round draft pick of the Boston Bruins in 1993. He played three seasons in the ECHL and two in the West Coast Hockey League (WCHL) before injuries forced him to retire in 2001.

Alvey won the 1994 NCAA Division I National Championship at Lake Superior State University, tallying the game-winning goal against Boston University in the championship game. A four-year player for the Lakers, Alvey appeared in 122 games, producing 34 goals and 31 assists for 65 points.
