Walsh and Capalbo Named to the NEILA All-Academic Team

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. –  A record two hundred and twenty-three student-athletes have been selected to the 2022 New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) All-Academic Teams, announced by the organization on Tuesday afternoon.

Members of the teams are nominated by head coaches in Divisions I, II, and III and are comprised of student-athletes who have excelled both in the classroom and on the field throughout their men's lacrosse career.

Nominees must have senior or graduate student standing, a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale, and be a significant enough player that he was nominated for at least All-Conference selection.

Albertus Magnus College men's lacrosse standouts Dane Walsh (Bethany, Conn.) and Will Capalbo (Fairfield, Conn.) were named to the 2022 NEILA All-Academic Team.

Walsh, a senior goalie and team captain in 2022, started in all 16 games for the Falcons and posted a .563 save percentage and a 13.51 goals-against average. His .563 save percentage ranked him eighth in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC). He also led the league in total saves with 273, a new single-season record for the program as well as a career-high for the Bethany, Conn. native. On the offensive side, Walsh scored two goals this spring, once as a field player against Eastern Nazarene and the other as a goalie against Saint Joseph College of Maine.

Capalbo finished his junior year, appearing in all 16 games, including 15 starts, for the Falcons as a midfielder. He scooped up 41 ground balls and caused 17 turnovers. Those numbers ranked him fourth on the team in ground balls and second in caused turnovers. He also recorded his first career goal in the Falcons' 6-3 win over Regis (Mass.) College.
