Men's Soccer Blanked by Norwich

Northfield, Vt. - The Albertus Magnus College men's soccer team closes out Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play as the Falcons fall to Norwich University, 4-0, on Saturday evening at Sabine Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
With four minutes remaining until halftime, Carlos Guerra was able to find the back of the net on a penalty kick to give the hosts the 1-0 lead. The Cadets outscored the Falcons in the first half, 11-1. Senior Matt Stoll (Shelton, Conn.) recorded the visitors lone shot of the half.
 
At the 63rd minute, Luke Gleadle found Chris Clain for his second goal of the season to give the hosts a two-point cushion, 2-0. Shortly after, Camilo Estrada would find the back of the net against Falcon keeper Joe Russo (North Haven, Conn.), pushing Norwich's lead to three, 3-0, with 24 minutes remaining in play.
 
Ransford Ahenkora tacked on an insurance tally at the 88th minute to cap the scoring for the hosts, 4-0.
 
Albertus Magnus had four different opportunities to score in the second half, including a shot on goal from Jonathan Beaucejour (Wallingford, Conn.), Diogo Cruz (Naugatuck, Conn.) and Salah Oumorou (West Haven, Conn.), but the Falcons were unsuccessful against the Cadet defense.
 
Norwich Brendan Germano earned the "W" in net and picked up his eighth win of the season. The keeper recorded all three saves in the second half.
 
Russo suffered his eighth loss of the season as well as recorded a save.
 
INSIDE THE STATS
  • Norwich outshot the Falcons 18-5, including  a 5-3 edge in shots on goal.'
  • Ormorou tallied two of the Falcons' five shots.
  • Camilo Estrada paced the Cadets' offense with five shots, while Matt Mazzola and Staige Davis added two shots each.
  • All six of the Cadets' corner kicks came in the first half.
  • Albertus Magnus recorded only one corner kick.
