Aremu and Russo Receive All-Conference Distinction

Winthrop, Mass. - Albertus Magnus College senior Joe Russo (North Haven, Conn.) and sophomore Abdoul Aremu (West Haven, Conn.) both earned All-Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) honors as announced by the league office on Monday. Russo and Aremu were selected to the All-Conference Third Team.

The GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team was also announced on Monday and senior Kaj Djonne (Sandy Hook, Conn.) represented the Falcons on the squad. Djonne finished his senior campaign with two points behind a goal on nine shot attempts. His lone goal of the season was in the Falcons' 3-2 win over Suffolk University.

Aremu proved to be one of the top strikers in the conference this season. He appeared in 15 games for the Falcons and tallied a team-high eight goals and two assists for 18 points, ranking in first on the team. Aremu tallied eight multi-point games, including a pair of three-point performances against Purchase and Rivier. He also scored the game-winning goal to lift the Falcons past Anna Maria.

Russo earns league-wide recognition for the first time in his career thanks to a league-high 135 saves and a 2.26 goals-against average. He closed out the fall campaign with a .767 save percentage, two shutouts and an overall record of 6-6-5. Russo posted 10 or more saves in net on six different occassions, including a season-best 19 saves against Saint Joseph's College (Me.). 

Founded in 1995, the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) is an NCAA Division III association made up of 13 member institutions and over 3,000 student-athletes across the New England region. Each year, the GNAC sponsors and administers 20 championships, while balancing academic integrity, athletic opportunities and community involvement.
