NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College men's soccer team had a stellar all-around performance Saturday afternoon en route to a 3-0 victory over Regis (Mass.) College in both teams' Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• After an excellent defensive first half, the Falcons took the lead with a goal from freshman Yahya Kardad (Wallingford, Conn.) on an assist from senior Ben Pierce (Meriden, Conn.) in the 50th minute to make the score 1-0.
• Pierce fed Kardad a beautiful pass into the box that the freshman took and fired over the closing keeper.
• Four minutes later, senior Anthony Barreira (Trumbull, Conn.) connected on a long cross from the left corner to Pierce for a headed goal to the bottom left corner to make it 2-0 Albertus.
• In the 68th minute, Kelvin Cortez (Meriden, Conn.) extended the lead after scoring off a bomb from Erik Dahlgard (Merrimac, Mass.) to make it 3-0.
• Dahlgard launched the ball from his own box and found a streaking Cortez, who casually scored to the goalie's right.
• David Lucero (East Haven, Conn.) had another stellar day in goal, earning his second shutout by making seven saves.
