Purchase, N.Y. – The Albertus Magnus College men's tennis team opened the 2016 spring season with an 8-1 victory versus Saint Joseph's (Brooklyn) on Wednesday afternoon in a neutral site clash at Purchase College. With the win, the Falcons improve to 1-0 on the year, while the Bears dropped to 0-1.

Albertus Magnus picked up where they left off last season with the decisive victory. Dating back to last April, the squad has won three straight matches.

The Falcons were dominant in doubles play, taking all three to jump out to an early advantage. At No. 1 the tandem of senior Pete Zacharias (North Haven, Conn.) and classmate Cerrone Bell (New Haven, Conn.) scored an 8-4 triumph, while the duo of freshman Steven Woodfield (Naugatuck, Conn.) and senior Ahmed Abdulateef (Hamden, Conn.) cruised to an 8-1 win at No. 3. At No. 2, Matthew Mezzei (Wallingford, Conn.) and Daniel Constantinidi (North Branford, Conn.) outlasted their opponents for an 8-6 win.

In singles play, Albertus Magnus pulled away by taking five of the six matches. AMC won all five of their singles matches in straight sets.

Albertus Magnus returns to action on Saturday, March 26, with a home non-conference clash against CCNY at the Celentano Courts at 1:00 pm.
