Falcons Blank Mount Ida 3-0 in Men’s Volleyball

Led by 12 kills from Glenn Johnson (Newington, Conn.), the Albertus Magnus men's volleyball team blanked Mount Ida 3-0 (25-21, 25-14, 25-17) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Tuesday night in New Haven.

Johnson tallied 12 kills in 19 attempts, while adding two blocks and six digs, as the Falcons earned their 15th win of the season, improving to 15-4 on the year and 3-4 in GNAC action. Mount Ida falls to 1-16 overall and 0-7 in the league standings.

After a back-and-forth first set, the Falcons settled in and dominated the second set of play. In set one, Mount Ida jumped out to an early 4-1 lead before the Falcons took their first lead of the night at 8-7 thanks to a kill from sophomore Brendan Charamut (Southington, Conn.).

Albertus went ahead 15-9 and looked to take control before the Mustangs battled back to tie the set at 15 on a kill from Spencer Hastings. Hastings finished the night with a team-high 11 kills in 32 tries. After a timeout by Albertus, the set was tied four more times before the Falcons went on a 4-0 run to close out the game with a 25-21 win.

The second set saw Albertus jump out to a commanding 12-6 lead before cruising to the 25-14 set victory. In the third set, Albertus used four kills from Johnson and four from Charamut to clinch the match victory and move up in the GNAC standings.

Douglas DeSousa (Danbury, Conn.) had 10 kills for the Falcons along with a team-high nine digs, while Charamut added eight kills and seven digs. Chase Brinton (Bethany, Conn.) recorded seven kills in 14 attempts, while he added six digs as well. Carlos Torres (Adjuntas, Puerto Rico) dished out 36 assists for the Falcons, while adding five digs and one service ace.

The Falcons return to action on Thursday night when they travel to Johnson & Wales for a 7:00 p.m. GNAC match-up in Providence.
