Falcons Win Season Opener 3-1 at Mt. St. Vincent

In its 2014 season opener, the Albertus Magnus men's volleyball team earned a 3-1 non-conference victory over Mount St. Vincent College on Wednesday night. The Falcons won the first set 25-17 before being edged out in the second with a 23-25 score. They finished with a 25-17 third set showing and a 25-15 fourth-set victory.

Raymond Torres (Cataño, Puerto Rico) dished out 43 assists in his Albertus debut, while Raul Rivera Rojas (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico) recorded a team-high 16 kills in 30 tries in his first match with the Falcons.

Glenn Johnson (Newington, Conn.) tallied 11 kills with no hitting errors for a .524 percentage.  Chase Brinton (Bethany, Conn.) led all Falcons with 16 digs, while Johnson added 10. Brendan Charamut (Southington, Conn.) added nine kills and six digs.

Torres also had four service aces and seven digs for the Falcons.

The Falcons held a positive hitting percentage throughout the entire match, led by 16 kills in a 25-17 third-set victory.

The Falcons dominated play as they posted 52 kills in 120 tries with just 15 hitting miscues.  Mt. St. Vincent had 27 kills on the night with 28 errors.  The Falcons also posted 10 blocks and eight service aces but struggled as they tallied 24 service errors.

Albertus will play in their 2014 home opener on Monday night when they host Mt. St. Vincent in a 7:00 p.m. contest in the CMM Athletic Center.
