#6 Rivier Blanks Falcons 3-0

The Albertus Magnus men's volleyball team fell to sixth-ranked Rivier 3-0 on Sunday afternoon.  The Raiders won 25-15, 25-17, and 25-20 to improve to 9-0 in league play and 21-5 on the year.  Albertus fell to 8-6 overall and 2-5 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play.

Raul Rivera Rojas (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico) led the Falcons' charge with nine kills but 11 hitting errors in 32 attempts hurt the cause.  The Falcons struggled offensively, while Rivier hit over .300 in two of the three sets played.

Glenn Johnson (Newington, Conn.) tallied five kills and seven digs, while Raymond Torres (Catano, Puerto Rico) led the Falcons with 11 digs.

Rivier was led by Chris Markuson with nine kills, six digs and four blocks.  Tyler Blank dished out 25 helpers to go along with five digs.  Markuson added three service aces to his stats' line.

Rivier tallied 42 kills in 94 attempts in the contest, while Albertus recorded 20 kills and 21 hitting errors in 90 tries.  Douglas DeSousa (Danbury, Conn.) had 10 assists on the contest.

Rivier opened the day with a 25-15 win over the Falcons in the first set. Chris Markuson led the Raiders with three kills in the frame as Rivier's offensive effort was spread out among eight different players.

In the second set, the Raiders opened the frame with a 7-0 lead before extending their lead to 11-4.  Rivier eventually took the 25-17 victory.

In the third set, the Falcons' battled but their late rally was not enough as Albertus lost 25-20.
