The Albertus Magnus men's volleyball team battled back from being down 2-0 to win its first match of the 2015 season with a 3-2 victory over York (N.Y.) on Saturday afternoon.  The Falcons are now 1-1 on the year, while the win marks the first for first-year head coach Kelvin Jones.

Glenn Johnson (Newington, Conn.) continued to lead the Falcons as he was targeted 44 times throughout the contest.  Johnson led the Falcons with 23 kills as he added five service aces and five digs.  Justin Tharau (Burlington, Conn.) dished out 21 assists to go along with 14 digs and one service ace.

After falling in the first two sets by scores of 25-21 each, the Falcons persevered and battled back to win the final three sets by scores of 25-21, 25-20, and 15-11.

Albertus controlled tempo in the third set to change the momentum of the contest.  The Falcons recorded 16 kills in the frame to help outlast York.

In the final set, the Falcons registered six kills, while York tallied just five. That showing helped the Falcons take the final set victory.

With the loss, York falls to 0-3 on the year.  York was led by Randy Adams with 27 kills in 51 attempts, while he hit .412 on the afternoon.  He added 11 digs.  Sebastien Francois added 40 assists.

Daniel Valmont (Orange, N.J.) added six kills for the Falcons.

Albertus returns to action next week as the Falcons open Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Thursday with a match at Wentworth.  The GNAC contest is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
