Men's Volleyball Splits a Tri-Match at York College

Jamaica, N.Y. – The Albertus Magnus College men's volleyball team split a tri-match at York College on Saturday afternoon in non-conference play at the York College Gymnasium. The Falcons opened the day with a 3-1 victory over the host Cardinals before falling to John Jay, 3-0, in the nightcap.

With the split, the Falcons move to 5-4 on the year. This season, all five of AMC's wins have come against foes from New York.

Albertus Magnus took the opener against York, 25-21, 25-12, 22-25 and 25-21. As a team, the Falcons produced a season-high 52 kills, 30 digs and eight blocks. Senior outside hitter Justin Tharau (Burlington, Conn.) had arguably his strongest game of the season versus the Cardinals, recording a double-double with 22 kills and 12 digs. Tharau had a .381 attack percentage to go along with one service ace. Junior middle hitter Josh Turner (Trumbull, Conn.) was a force at the net for the guests, registering 13 kills and five blocks (4 block solos, 2 block assists). Senior middle hitter Connor Filkins (Wallingford, Conn.) added seven kills and freshman setter Jeremy Ortiz (Bridgeport, Conn.) contributed four kills and a match-high 37 assists for the Falcons in the win.

In the finale, stats were not kept. The Falcons dropped the contest, 25-23, 25-19 and 25-15.

Albertus Magnus returns to action on Tuesday, March 1, with a home Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) clash against Lasell inside the Nest at 7:00 pm.
