Men's Volleyball Drops GNAC Battle to Mount Ida

Newton, Mass. – Despite a season-high performance from senior Joshua Turner (Trumbull, Conn.), the Albertus Magnus College men's volleyball team fell in straight sets on the road to Mount Ida on Thursday evening in GNAC action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Albertus Magnus open set one with the early 5-2 lead before the Mustangs took over following an 11-3 run, 13-8, to force the Falcons to call a timeout to regroup.  Following the short break, Albertus Magnus kept within reach of the hosts, but fell short 25-18.

Mount Ida took over the second set with an 11-6 lead until short spurt from the Falcons cut the score to within thee, 13-10. However, the Mustangs put the game out of reach for the visitors, 25-15. 

Albertus Magnus shifted the momentum in the third set as the Falcons pushed their lead to three, 6-3, following an attack error by the hosts. However, Mount Ida went on a brief run to take the lead 8-6, before a timeout called by the visitors. The Mustangs slowly began building up their lead and secured the final set and match 25-16.

FINAL STATS

  • Turner led the offensive unit as the senior tied his season-high of nine kills as well as added six digs and two block assists.
  • For Mount Ida, Peter Griffenkranz recorded a team-high nine kills, thee assists, two service aces and a solo block.
  • Felix Rivas (Danbury, Conn.) and Brian Reyes (Danbury, Conn.) added to the Falcons' offense as the teammates added two kills apiece.
  • The Falcons recorded a stat line of 13 kills, 10 assists, two service aces, 14 digs and eight blocks.
