The Albertus Magnus softball team dropped an 8-3 decision to Brooklyn College on Wednesday night in the first game of a non-conference double header. Maria Mantagas led the Bulldogs with three hits, including a two-run home run and two doubles.

The Falcons (11-16) never led in the contest as Brooklyn (11-10) opened the game with a two-run first inning thanks to Mantagas' two-run home run over the center field wall.

Danielle Figueroa (Bridgeport, Conn.) led the Falcons with an RBI triple to right field as she cut the Bulldogs' lead to three at 5-3 in the fifth. The Falcons' first run of the night came in the fourth inning as freshman Aimee Mirto (Hamden, Conn.) grounded out to second as Brittney Urciuoli (Newington, Conn.) was able to score on the play.

Brooklyn tallied a three-run sixth inning with help from a two-RBI double by Mantagas as the Bulldogs took an 8-2 lead. Albertus scored its final run of the contest in its seventh-inning rally as Shannon Knox (Hamden, Conn.) knocked in Rebecca Slivinsky (Plainville, Conn.) from third with an RBI single to left.

Melissa Manning (Milford, Conn.) was the only Falcon to register multiple hits in the contest as she finished 2-for-3 at the plate. The Falcons tallied six hits on the night led by three triples from three different players.

Danielle Thuerling (Wallingford, Conn.) took the loss to fall to 8-13 on the year. She threw seven complete innings while allowing eight runs and 13 hits. She also struck out nine.

Stephanie Caravello finished the contest 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI for the Bulldogs. Marie Oneto allowed just three runs and six hits in seven innings of work. She walked two and struck out four batters as well.
