Softball Weekly Preview: Anna Maria, Simmons & Mount Ida

Last Week: The Albertus Magnus College softball team went 1-5 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play last week, dropping a pair of conference doubleheaders before earning a doubleheader split at Suffolk on Sunday. Albertus Magnus enters the week with a 15-9 overall record and a 6-6 mark in league action. The Falcons snapped a six-game losing streak with an 8-2 win over Suffolk in game two of their doubleheader. In the victory, sophomore Megan Ferraro tossed a complete game to earn her ninth win of the spring and both junior Megan Kelly and sophomore Daysia Wehder hit solo home runs.

This Week: The Falcons host Anna Maria in a midweek doubleheader before facing Simmons at home on Saturday and traveling to play Mount Ida on Sunday. The team is currently in seventh-place in the GNAC with 10 conference contests left. AMC ends the year with 10 straight league showdowns.

Last Spring Versus the AMCATS: Albertus Magnus scored a 23-8 victory against Anna Maria in New Haven last year. The Falcons put the game out of reach with a 16-run outburst in the seventh inning. Both Brianna Whitfield and Alyssa Puccilli  had four RBIs in the win for the Falcons.

Last Season Against the Sharks: Simmons and AMC split a league doubleheader in Boston. The Sharks took the opener, 7-4, and the Falcons earned a 6-3 triumph in the nightcap. In the loss, Gillian Fortier and Puccilli both registered three hits apiece. Fortier also had three hits in game two, while Amanda Jessey had two hits and two RBIs.

Live Stats: Game One & Game Two 

Last Year Against Mount Ida: The Falcons took both ends of a doubleheader at home against Mount Ida last April. Albertus Magnus took the opener, 4-1, and scored a 10-4 triumph in the finale. In game one, Ferraro earned the win in the circle, tossing over five innings and scattering four hits. In the nightcap, Fortier and Rachel Cataudella  both had three RBIs apiece.

Albertus Notes:
- Fortier hit .400 with an impressive .591 on-base percentage as the Falcons went 1-5 in conference play last week. She recorded at least one hit in all six contests to stretch her hitting streak to 10 games. Fortier also registered two or more walks in a game twice for the Falcons. She added two doubles, one steal, four RBIs and one run scored on the week. Fortier also walked six times during the week.
- Puccilli is one hit away from setting a new program record. The senior outfielder moved into a tie with former teammate Brittney Urciuoli for the most hits (132) in program history.
- As a team, AMC is hitting .296 with 36 extra-base hits, 119 runs scored and 30 stolen bases. The squad has a team ERA of 2.85. Defensively, the Falcons have a .950 fielding percentage. Albertus Magnus has committed 38 errors in 24 games.
- Ferraro is 9-3 with a save in the circle this season. She has a team-leading 1.64 ERA in 77 innings of work. Freshman Kristen Cunning is 4-2 with a 3.11 ERA and Samantha Maselli is 2-0 with a 2.30 ERA.
- Whitfield leads the team with a .417 batting average and Fortier is also hitting over .400. Whitfield leads the team with 19 runs scored, while Fortier has a team-best 31 hits and 14 RBIs.
