Softball Weekly Preview: St. Joseph (Conn.) & Emmanuel

Last Week: The Albertus Magnus College softball team went 4-2 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play, sweeping a doubleheader versus Anna Maria before splitting with Simmons and Mount Ida over the weekend. The Falcons enter the final week of the regular season with a 19-11 overall record and a 10-8 mark in league play. This spring, the Falcons have split GNAC doubleheaders four times. Sophomore pitcher Megan Ferraro picked up two wins in the circle for Albertus Magnus, while Gillian Fortier and Daysia Wehder paced the offensive attack. Fortier hit .500 with three RBI and six runs scored and Wehder hit .474 with six RBI.

This Week: Albertus Magnus closes out the regular season with a pair of GNAC doubleheaders. The Falcons travel to take on in-state rival St. Joseph (Conn.) in midweek action before hosting Emmanuel on Senior Day over the weekend.

Last Spring Against the Bluejays: St. Joseph and Albertus Magnus spilt a doubleheader in New Haven last April. The Bluejays took the opener, 7-2, and the Falcons scored a 4-2 win in the nightcap. AMC hit three home runs in the win, as Melissa Castillo hit a two-run shot and both Wehder and Alyssa Puccilli knocked solo homers.

Last Year Versus the Saints: Albertus Magnus topped Emmanuel three times last spring, sweeping a doubleheader on the road in regular season and eliminating the Saints in the opening round of the GNAC Tournament.

Albertus Notes
- Fortier was named to the GNAC honor roll after her strong play last week. She is currently batting .421 and she leads the team in hits (40), triples (4), RBIs (17), on-base percentage (.518), total bases (52) and walks (16). Last week, she became the ninth player in program history to record 100 career hits. Fortier was the fastest to do so, eclipsing the mark in just 68 games.
- Sophomore Brianna Whitfield has a team-best .422 batting average, seven doubles and 24 runs scored. She has registered 16 RBIs and is slugging over .500.
- Earlier this spring, Puccilli became the all-time hits leader in program history. In her final season, she is .343 with 15 RBIs and five stolen bases.
- In the circle, Ferraro is 11-3 with a save to go along with a team-best 1.86 ERA in 94 innings of work. Freshman Kristen Cunning  is 5-2 with a 2.93 ERA in 43 innings this spring.
