FORTIER NAMED GNAC ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Fortier hit .550 (11-20) with four homers, two doubles, 14 RBI and 12 runs scored as the Falcons went 6-0 last week, including a sweep of USJ. She slugged 1.250 and posted a .625 OBP for an impressive 1.875 OPS. She had a homer in each game in doubleheaders versus Dean and Mount Ida and hit safely in all six contests.

RECORD NUMBER FOR FORTIER
Following Monday's doubleheader split with Mount St. Vincent, Gillian Fortier has set both a career and season-high in home runs with seven. She also recorded three-straight home runs as well as collected all of her home runs in the month of April.

100 RUNS FOR FORTIER
In Monday's win over Mt. St. Vincent, Gillian Fortier hit a career milestone as the third basemen has recorded 100 runs.

SOFTBALL PICKED TO FINISH FIFTH IN GNAC PRESEASON POLL
The Albertus Magnus College softball team was picked to finish fifth in the 2017 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Preseason Poll.

2016 RECAP

  • Albertus Magnus is coming off another successful season, finishing 2016 with a 22-17 overall record and a 12-10 mark in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action. 
  • Albertus Magnus saw its season come to an end on the final weekend of the conference tournament as the Falcons fell to both Johnson & Wales and Suffolk in the double elimination portion of the league tourney.

GNAC YEAR AWARD WINNERS

  • Infielder Gillian Fortier (Naugatuck, Conn.) was named to the first team for the second straight year.
  • Teammates Brianna Whitfield (West Islip, N.Y.) and Alyssa Puccilli (Milford, Conn.) both received third team distinction.
  • Infield Rachel Cataudella (Shelton, Conn.) represented Albertus Magnus on the squad.

FUN-FILLED SUMMER
Gillian Fortier (Naugatuck, Conn.), Samantha Maselli (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) and Megan Kelly (Bronx, N.Y.) traveled the world playing softball. Fortier and Maselli, who are both entering their junior years on campus, traveled to Cape Town, South Africa for two weeks to take part in Beyond Sports' first annual South Africa Softball Tour. Kelly, who is set to begin her senior campaign with the Falcons, had the opportunity to travel to Aruba and play five games.

Albertus Magnus returns to action next week against Suffolk, Emmanuel (Mass.) and Saint Joseph's (Me.). The softball team will also be honoring its five-member senior class prior to the start of the game against Saint Joseph's (Me.).
