Louisville, Ky. - Over 8,000 student-athletes (8,161), a first in NFCA history, were named 2019 Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes, the Association announced on Wednesday afternoon.
Albertus Magnus College softball had seven players recognized on the list who achieved a 3.5 grade point average or higher a year ago.
The Falcons are one of four GNAC teams to have players earn this distinction from the NFCA with Johnson & Wales having the most players honored with 19. Simmons (11) and Suffolk (9) were also represented. Overall, Division III student-athletes led the way with 1,928 honorees of the 8,161.
Laura Anderson (East Haven, Conn.), Megan Anderson (Levittown, N.Y.), Cassie Couture (Waterbury, Conn.), Kristin Cunning (Hoboken, N.J.), Marissa Guglielmi (Branford, Conn.), Madison LaBossiere (Griswold, Conn.) and Maxine Sanchez (Corona, N.Y.) all received the award.
Albertus Magnus College, founded in 1925 by the Dominican Sisters of Peace, is a Catholic College in the Dominican Tradition. It is recognized as a Top 100 Regional University in the north by US News & World Report Best Colleges guide for 2019. The College has an enrollment of 1,500 students in its traditional undergraduate program, accelerated adult degree programs, and 12 graduate programs, including a new Master of Public Administration and the only Master of Arts in Art Therapy and Counseling in Connecticut. In the last few months, the College received two significant federal grants, $300,000 from the Department of Justice and a $2 million Title III grant from the Department of Education.
