Women's Basketball Falls Short on the Road to Widener

Madison, N.J. - Senior Olivia Bolden (South Windsor, Conn.) recorded her second double-double of the season as the Albertus Magnus College women's basketball team fell short on the road, 70-63, to new opponent Widener Friday evening as part of the Rose City Classic.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Widener controlled the opening tip and found themelves ahead 14-5 before a three-point play from junior Jill Johnson (North Haven, Conn.) cut the lead to within three, 17-14. Both teams traded baskets and Widener would lead 20-16 heading into the second.
 
The Pride continued to control the momentum of the game and pushed their lead to eight, 28-20, until another rally from the Falcons cut the lead to within two, 28-26. However, the Falcons would head into the locker room trailing by six, 33-27.
 
Albertus Magnus stepped its game up in third, outshooting the Pride 22-19, after battling back from an 11-point deficit with three minutes remaining in the quarter.
 
Widener carried its lead into the final 10 minutes of play until the 5:45 mark as freshman Raegon Shirling-Davis (Waterbury, Conn.) gave the Falcons their first lead of the night, 656-54.
 
Both teams battled back-and-fourth for the remainder of the game as the Pride defeated the Falcons in non-conference play.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Bolden and junior Jill Johnson (North Haven, Conn.) paced the Falcons offense with 21 points a piece, while Bolden led the team in rebounding with 14.
  • Albertus Magnus topped Widener in rebounding, 48-45, as well as forced 20 Pride turnovers.
  • Along with her 21 points, Johnson tallied five rebounds, two assists and two steals.
  • Widener had three players score in double figues, including a team-high 19 points from Madison Ireland.
  • The Falcons shot 15.4 percent from behind the arc, 35.9 percent from the field and 45.5 percent from the  charity strpe.
  • Junior Kristen Cunning (Hoboken, N.J.) led the Falcons' off the bench with eight points, four rebounds and a steal.
  • Both teams posted a total of 10 steals a piece.
