Women's Basketball Picked to Finish Seventh in GNAC Preseason Poll

Winthrop, Mass. – The Albertus Magnus College women's basketball team was picked to finish seventh in the 2018-19 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Poll, which was released Thursday afternoon, is voted on by the league's 13 head coaches.

The Falcons received 89 points to finish seven-points behind sixth-place Johnson & Wales. Fresh off its fourth GNAC Championship, Saint Joseph's College of Maine has taken 11 of a possible 13 first-place votes for 165 points to finish atop of the poll.

Finishing second in the poll was Emmanuel College, who collected 154 points and one first-place vote while Suffolk University claimed third with 145 points and one first-place vote.

Regis (Mass.) finished fourth with 123 points, just ahead of fifth-place Colby-Sawyer College with 119 points. Rounding out the top seven after the Chargers was the Wildcats and Falcons.

Making up the remainder of the poll was Norwich University (80), Simmons University (57), University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) (47), Lasell College (41), Rivier University (37) and Anna Maria College (30).

The Falcons' regular season begins on November 14th with a mid-week non-conference road match at John Jay.

Founded in 1995, the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) is an NCAA Division III association made up of 13 member institutions and over 3,000 student-athletes across the New England region. Each year, the GNAC sponsors and administers 20 championships, while balancing academic integrity, athletic opportunities and community involvement.
