Thompson Named USBWA Division III National Player of the Week

New Haven, Conn. - Junior Rah Rah Thompson (Bridgeport, Conn.) of the Albertus Magnus College women's basketball team has been named the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) Division III National Player of the Week after her stellar performance last week for the Falcons.

Thompson, a 6-0 center/forward from Bridgeport, Conn., recorded 20-20 games in both of Albertus Magnus' (22-3, 10-2) victories last week. Against Johnson & Wales on Wednesday, Thompson totaled 22 points and 22 rebounds while adding three steals, an assist and a block in the Falcons' 82-70 win. Then, in a 68-62 victory over Suffolk on Saturday, she tied a career high with 26 points while also collecting a career-best 25 rebounds. Thompson added three blocks, an assist and a steal in the contest. For the week, she averaged 24.0 ppg, 23.5 rpg, 2.0 bpg, 2.0 spg, and 1.0 apg, while shooting 57.7 (26-of-45) percent from the field, 36.8 percent (7-of-19) from the foul line and 33.3 percent (1-of-3) from three-point range. Her 14.4 rpg this season is third-most in NCAA Division III, while her 18 double-doubles are tied for the third-highest total. For her efforts, Thompson was also named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Week for the second time this season.

The U.S. Basketball Writers Association was formed in 1956 at the urging of then-NCAA Executive Director Walter Byers. With some 900 members worldwide, it is one of the most influential organizations in college basketball. It has selected an All-America team since the 1956-57 season.

The Falcons will face sixth-seeded Regis (Mass.) College in the quarterfinals of the GNAC Tournament on Tuesday, February 19 in New Haven, Conn. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
